Other systems of energetic healing

There are many forms in the complementary healthcare where the practitioners are working with energy. I will sum up a couple of them. Some will be very logical, others need some extra explanation.

  • Acupressure - This is a (Chinese) massage. The treatment is based on the same principles as acupuncture, but with massage instead of needles.
  • Acupuncture - The well known needle techniques, where the needles are placed on specific points (acupoints) on the clients body. This activates or sedates (tempers) the energy flow.
  • Reiki - This is a way of laying-on hands / energy transfer. The hands are laid down on an energetic centre. Mostly people feel the heat that comes from the hands (which is a sign that there is circulating a lot of energy).
  • Homeopathy - This seems to be a bit of a stranger here, but not when you take a second look. Most of the homeopathic therapists subscribe a preparation (drops, a liquid or pills), made of a natural product (plant, flower).
This preparation has a so-called frequency (there it is again), which has to make sure that the parts that need treatment (i.e. the liver) is stimulated to cure / restore itself.
  • Shiatsu - A Japanese version of acupressure.
  • Craniosacral therapy - This is a therapy that has it's roots in the osteopathy, and they are manipulating the Liquor (brain fluid, which is moving constantly through the spinal column and around the brains) with a certain speed. When there is a deviation in the speed or free trespassing, a blockade can/will be the result.
These blockades can be removed by very soft and gentle massage techniques, mainly on the head and spinal column. The hands and fingers are put on special places/points on the body and are kept there for a while.

  • Chiropracty - This treatment is based on the spinal column, and has it's roots also in the osteopathy.
Sometimes certain vertebrae can be moved from its original place/situation or an intervertebral disc can be damaged. By putting back the vertebra the body gets a corrected position.
Another big advantage is that certain nerves, (the nerves are coming from the spinal marrow, through "gates" in the vertebrae discs outside the spinal column, in the body) that were jammed, are now free again. The result will be that the (nervous) pain is less or even completely gone, but also that the nerves better innervate the muscle tissue.
  • Physiotherapy - Although this therapy, just like the chiropractor, is not really working with energy, I thought it was useful to mention these two.
The physiotherapist is mainly focussed on muscles and tendons. In the past, massage was a large part of physiotherapy, but most of the practitioners these days are more and more about fitness.
Still, a muscle is only working when the right nerves can put their (electric) signals, innervations, towards the muscle and back to the brains without obstructions/blockades. When there is a problem in the stimulus between a muscle and the brains, all related muscles and organs can be disturbed (which is a disbalance)

Ultimately I would indicate that working with energy also finds its expression in yoga, meditation and other forms of spiritual / mental / physical disciplines.
As you can notice from all the above, working with energy is much more common then people are aware of at the moment. It's much closer to home as you can see with the examples of the physiotherapist and chiropractor, although these two medical disciplines are "just" working with energy of the nervous system and not with the energy from the meridians.
So working with energy is just an extension of everything we already know, and what we call "scientifically declared" in the medical world.
