Conventional versus complementary medicine
In the past years, there is a growing group of people who are aware of the fact that conventional
and complementary/alternative medicine can indeed support each other.
The word "complementary" sums it up: it's a complement with the conventional medicine, and can support the client (the most important). It is most definitely not a replacement for conventional
medical care. Reflex therapy gives a surplus to the client's recovery.
For a long time, there was a lot of resistance to complementary medicine and results that were accomplished, were disposed of as fables or "coincidences".
In the last 15 years of the 20th century till now it's clear that complementary medicine is taking a
quite important and large part of the healthcare these days.
Conventional as well as complementary healthcare understand each other a bit better and even appreciate each other views, and there is a growing group of people that understands that a close cooperation is desirable or even, (in my opinion) necessary.
The difference
The two main differences:
- The complementary therapist will take a look at the total human being, not only the complaint
- The complementary therapist has the (true) point of view that the body can cure itself, if in balance
A complementary therapist takes a look from a holistic point of view toward his/her clients,
which means we look at the physical, mental, emotional, social and spiritual state of the client.
Not only the complaints, but the whole person behind these complaints is important.
That’s the reason why the therapist will balance body and mind,
which gives the human body the abilities to cure itself
